Welcome to the Intalink 'change' page. We understand that the majority of people use cars regularly, but how many of your weekly/fortnightly journeys are you able to make using a more sustainable mode? We are not trying to tell you what to do but would like you to think about your travel habits in general and maybe consider public transport now and then. If everyone used public transport for just one of their journeys a week, we could significantly reduce congestion on Hertfordshire's roads.

On this page you will find a variety of information about using public transport and things to consider in the future. As well as links, facts and figures you can use the menu on the left to navigate the Intalink website where you will be able to find timetables, maps, and for those that may need an extra bit of help, a number of journey planning sites, which do the hard work for you. Using public transport doesn't need to be stressful or time-consuming, why not give it a go - just once this week?

Why is travelling by bus better than the car?

  • Cleaner and Greener - Travelling by bus uses less CO2 per passenger mile than a car (source: Defra CO2 emissions factors).
  • Uses less road space - Buses are much more efficient in terms of road space than cars.
  • Less congestion - Today there are more than 33 million vehicles registered in the UK, of which 28 million are cars, and nearly a third of households now have access to two or more cars. By 2025 it is predicted that there will be over 35 million cars on the road (Dft Roads command paper). If more people were to travel by bus, there would be less cars on the road, meaning less congestion, pollution and carbon dioxide emmisions.
  • Healthier - You breath in a third less pollution travelling on a bus than by car (Environmental Travel Association). Also travelling on a bus could be a more relaxing and less stressful journey than travelling by car.
  • Safer - Travelling to school by bus or coach has a better safety record than travelling by car (Guidance for schools, Dft).
