Changes have been made across Hertfordshire to support social distancing measures. Information on changes in various towns across the county can be found here. Proposed service enhancements - Department for Transport funding
Hertfordshire County Council has been awarded a share of £401k in a Department for Transport-funded scheme to support enhancements to local bus services in the financial year 2020-21. Following the evaluation of several schemes, including requests made by the public during recent consultation on the Intalink Enhanced Partnership, this shortlist was drawn up and submitted to the DfT in March 2020. Since then the situation has changed with passenger numbers falling dramatically and the DfT now allowing a proportion of the funding to be diverted into maintaining existing contracted services instead. If this proves to be necessary then it will not be possible to carry out all the schemes listed. Other unknown factors are (1) whether passenger numbers will recover to the extent that service enhancements will generate the expected demand (2) while money from this grant can be carried over into 2021-22, most schemes will not be sustainable without ongoing funding.(3) exact costs and therefore affordability are subject to completion of negotiations with operators.
