Why are these changes to ticketing products and pricing taking place?

The cost of operating bus services has increased significantly. Following a review of ticket products and operating costs, the current discount offered on Intalink Connect and Colney 7 tickets is no longer financially sustainable.

The changes have been carefully considered and agreed in partnership with local bus operators.

We appreciate that this is disappointing to many bus users in Hertfordshire and we are working to ensure the changes are as minimal as possible.

What changes are happening to children’s tickets (5-10 years old)?

The current Intalink Connect discount is changing from 50% to 30%. You do not need a SaverCard to access this discount, but it will be given at the driver's discretion.

Which SaverCards are being withdrawn as a result of these changes?

The current Adult SaverCard and Senior SaverCard will be withdrawn from 6th September 2026, and you will no longer be able to use the card on a bus or apply for a new card after this date.

When will the changes be made?

The changes will be made on 6th September 2026. This applies to all SaverCard products, Colney7 tickets and Intalink Connect ticket prices.

Will my current SaverCard still be valid?

Current SaverCard and SaverCard Plus holder’s cards will remain valid until your renewal date or its expiry date. However, from 6th September 2026 the prices and discounts applied to Intalink Connect tickets will change in line with the new pricing structure.

If you are an Adult and Senior SaverCards holder, you will be unable to use your SaverCard beyond the withdrawal date of 6th September 2026.  If you have purchased your SaverCard (Adult and Senior) in the last six months, then you will automatically be refunded back the £20 application fee. You may dispose of your SaverCard appropriately after this point.

Do I need to apply for a new SaverCard to receive the revised discount?

No. If you already have a valid SaverCard, the correct discount will be applied automatically.

How can I receive my SaverCard discounts on Intalink Connect tickets?

In order to speed up boarding on bus and to simplify bus operator ticket machine functions discounts with a Hertfordshire SaverCard will only be available when tickets are purchased through the Intalink App or web portal.   They cannot be given when tickets are purchased on-bus.

Therefore the ticket classes available for ticket purchase on-bus will be as follows:

  • Adult
  • Group
  • Child - Age 5 to 10 (30% discount on adult price)
  • Young person - Age 11 to 15 (30% discount on adult price)

How will my age be verified for the correct discount?

The discount applied will be based on the date of birth associated with your Intalink account. Alternatively, on bus sales, this will be based on drivers' discretion.

What alternatives are available if my Adult SaverCard or Senior SaverCard is withdrawn?

The current £3 National bus fare cap in England applies to single journeys only on most buses in Hertfordshire until December 2026, with it lowering to £2 from January 2027 until December 2027 and will most likely be the cheapest option for single journeys.

Some individual operators also sell ticketing products. These may be another cheaper alternative option for travelling around the county.

If you wish to contact the operator of the bus service you currently use you can find contact details for other operators who are members of the Intalink Enhanced Partnership at Partners - Intalink.  You can check timetables and updates on Routes, timetables & maps - Intalink. Here you can search for a location, or the bus route number and the timetable will show the name of the operator.

Who can I contact if I have technical questions about my SaverCard?
